Road transport

1. Concept of road transport

Road transport is a form of transporting passengers and goods through means of transport on the road system such as: trucks, container trucks, buses, cars, motorbikes, etc.

This is the most popular mode of transport, playing an important role in the supply chain and trade of goods, especially in short and medium distances.

2. Characteristics of road transport

  • High flexibility: Vehicles can go to almost any location, including remote areas that are difficult to reach by rail or waterway.
  • Fast delivery time: Especially in the inner city or short distances, road is the optimal choice to ensure delivery time.
  • Easy to organize and manage: Due to the diverse scale of vehicles and not depending on overly complex infrastructure systems such as railways or seaports.
  • Suitable for door-to-door delivery: This is an outstanding advantage that other types of transport find difficult to compete with.

3. The role of road transport in the economy

  • Ensuring the continuous circulation of goods: Road transport plays a role in connecting other modes of transport, helping to form a complete logistics network.
  • Promoting local economic development: By bringing agricultural products, goods and industrial products to consumer markets quickly.
  • Creating jobs: From related industries such as driving, repair, logistics, wharf services, ... the road transport industry creates millions of jobs for society.

4. Current status of road transport in Vietnam

Currently, road transport accounts for the largest proportion in the domestic transport structure of Vietnam - about 70% of the total volume of freight transport.

However, besides positive contributions, the industry is also facing many challenges:

  • Pressure on traffic infrastructure: Overloaded and degraded roads hinder traffic.
  • Traffic congestion and accidents: Especially in large cities and key national highways
  • High fuel and operating costs: Affect the economic efficiency of transport enterprises.
  • Environmental impact: Emissions from road vehicles are one of the causes of air pollution.

5. Solutions and development orientations

To develop the road transport industry sustainably, it is necessary to focus on a number of solutions:

  • Investing in and upgrading transport infrastructure, especially highways, ring roads, and overpasses.
  • Applying technology in transport management: For example, GPS positioning systems, freight coordination software, fleet management, etc.
  • Developing environmentally friendly vehicles: Encouraging the use of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles to replace traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.
  • Strengthening state management and business support policies: Towards transparency and professionalization of the transport industry.

Road transport is the "backbone" of the national transport network and supply chain. With its flexibility, convenience and high connectivity, it not only serves production and consumption but also plays a strategic role in socio-economic development. However, to exploit it effectively and sustainably, it requires synchronous investment from infrastructure, technology to policy.

Road transport is not only a means of transportation, but also the blood vessels of the economy - where each vehicle carries the rhythm of life, connecting production with consumption, and people with all regions of the country.
